Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impacts of mining activities on the social, economic, and cultural conditions of communities in Konawe Regency, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of the mining company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation in villages located at different distances from the mining site (0–5 km, 5–10 km, and 10–25 km). The results indicate that the mining impacts vary according to proximity to the site. Villages closest to the mine (0–5 km) experience the most significant socio-economic and environmental pressures, including the decline of traditional livelihoods, limited access to mining jobs, land and natural resource degradation, reduced social interaction, and inequality in local power structures. Mid-distance villages (5–10 km) experience moderate impacts, while distant villages (10–25 km) remain relatively stable in terms of social, economic, and cultural aspects. CSR programs are limited, sporadic, and have not provided substantial benefits to the communities, creating noticeable disparities between negative impacts and benefits in the nearest villages. The study recommends improving CSR and environmental management through a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable approach to enhance the well-being of local communities.
